Album Launch for Kiya Heartwood's Little Wars
Kiya Heartwood (Stealin Horses, Wishing Chair) is a songwriter who walks a wide path through Roots, Americana and Rock without ever losing a beat. Her work is poetic, visual and politically charged. She delivers a clear-eyed vision of an America that is diverse, democratic, feminist and hopeful. Little Wars is Kiya's twentieth recording and Heartwood has never sounded better. Her storytelling is engaging. Little Wars is a collection of songs that delves into the small fights and struggles we all face with health and love.
The new recording features two political anthems, Sister Stand, a traditional feminist fight song, and Shine that paints a vision of an America we all want to live in. "I believe in second chances, full voting lines, Mississippi bus riders, uncrossed picket lines..." Other songs include Veneer, Last Reason to Stay, Elijah and the title track, Little Wars. Kiya will be joined at the Bookwoman concert by fiddler Sarah Stollak. The new CD will be available at the show.
