I See The Stars, the fourth work of poetry by Kelsey Erin Shipman, is, at its heart, a book about light. The poems transcend the dark streets of New York City, and the sharp sting of their loneliness, through an unyielding commitment to transformation. As the title poem suggests, the only place to truly see the stars is from the darkest, lowest vantage point. And this book, with its heartfelt sentiments and careful verse, anchors the reader to the ground with a clear view of the sky. I See The Stars is a search for light in the pervading gloom of obscurity.

Kelsey Erin Shipman is a poet, performer and educator. She is the author of four chapbooks of poetry and has written for The Austin Chronicle, USA Today and small presses across the country. She has worked as a union organizer, tele-marketer and sold fireworks at a roadside stand in rural Texas. For the past two years, she taught performance poetry to middle schoolers in South Austin and is now receiving her M.F.A in Creative Writing from Texas State University. Though she has performed her work on four continents, her poetry is rooted in the landscape, culture and politics of her home in central Texas.
