Film Screening: Girls Rock! (The Movie)

05/11/2010 6:30 pm

In one week at Girls Rock Camp, girls ranging in age from 11 to 17 learn to ply instruments, form bands, write songs, and rock the stage. This documentary follows the social, emotioal, and musical learning curve of four girls at Portland's Rock-n-Roll Camp for Girls, where feminist rockers like Carrie Brownstein (Sleater-Kinney) help girls build dreams and self-esteem. Playful animated sequences address issues like body image. This is a great film for parents to share with their tweenagers.

After the film, volunteers and campers from Girls Rock Camp Austin will answer questions about the rock camp experience and summer 2010 camps.

This event is presented by Girls Rock Camp Austin.
