Getting to Know the Goddess Series: Sun Goddesses: June 30

Sun Goddesses
presented by Linda Webster

Let’s celebrate the Summer Solstice with poetry and stories of Sun Goddesses from different cultures: Amaterasu from Japan, Sul from England, Hathor from Egypt, Grandmother Spider, and many others. We’ll have stories to listen to, as well as stories that we’ll read to each other. If you have a poem or story about the Sun Goddess, please share it with us. This program is inspired by Merlin Stone’s delight in discovering Sun Goddesses (after she had been taught that the moon-not the sun-was always considered female), as well as by Patricia Monaghan’s O Mother Sun! (published in 1994).

Linda Webster has been a member of the Women’s Spirituality Group at the First Unitarian Universalist Church since 1984, facilitating women’s circles, Wheel of the Year seasonal celebrations, and labyrinth walks. Linda is the organizer for BookWoman’s monthly series “Getting to Know the Goddess.”
