Book Launch for Cindy Huyser's Burning Number Five: Power Plant Poems
Cindy Huyser’s Burning Number Five: Power Plant Poems was named co-winner of the 2014 Blue Horse Press Chapbook contest. Inspired by her experiences as a power plant operator, the poems in this volume sing with the music of machinery; they give voice to the human effort that energizes electrical grids.
To quote Larry D. Thomas, 2008 Texas Poet Laureate and judge for the contest, the poems of Burning Number Five “illuminate, with subtlety and consummate artistic skill, the broader concepts of human labor and the paradoxical relationship between humans and technology. Burning Number Five is a memorable, seamless merging of art and science.”
Cindy Huyser served as co-editor for the Texas Poetry Calendar from 2009 – 2014, and currently hosts a monthly poetry reading and open mic at BookWoman. Her work has appeared in a variety of publications, including Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review, The Comstock Review, and Layers (Plain View Press, 1994).
