Book Launch: Marion Winik's The Big Book of the Dead
Join us for a family reunion of sorts as we celebrate Marion Winik's new volume of collected work, The Big Book of the Dead, with longtime friends Marion and Naomi Shihab Nye! The book opens with an epigraph from Naomi's Voices in the Air -- these books and these writers belong together.
Longtime Austinite Marion Winik is the author of First Comes Love, Highs in the Low Fifties, and many other books. She is the host of The Weekly Reader radio show and podcast, based at the Baltimore NPR affiliate. She reviews books for Newsday, People, and Kirkus Reviews and is a board member of the National Book Critics Circle. She teaches in the MFA program at the University of Baltimore.
A resident of San Antonio, Naomi Shihab Nye is the Young People’s Poet Laureate for the nation (Poetry Foundation) and the new one-year editor of poetry for the New York Times Magazine. She is on faculty at Texas State University and her latest book is The Tiny Journalist.
