Getting To Know The Goddess: Poems by Susan J. Rogers

In the poems from her new book, Landscapes of the Mind, Rogers wraps the personal in the mystical to reimagine history and ultimately transform it.  Her retelling of the legends we thought we knew reveal that the Goddess of our ancestors (Middle East, China, and British Isles) is still with us, hiding in plain sight.  Her thirst for knowledge about the Goddess untangles the lies we were taught so we can stand proudly as women in the reflection of the divine.  She uses her roots in the natural landscapes of the Great Lakes, New Mexico, and south central Texas to seek wisdom in the web of life that surrounds and sustains us.  Some of these poems have appeared in Texas Nafas shows on public cable television in Austin where Rogers was interviewed about her poetry, as well as the Sunday Sun, newspaper of Williamson County, di-vêrsé-city: anthology of the Austin International Poetry Festival, and The Ocotillo Review.

Susan J. Rogers lives in Georgetown, TX, with her partner, Luisa-Maria Potter, who contributes art to her books.  In addition to being a poet, Rogers has been a choir director, composer, and has played drums and piano.  Her love of music is featured in her poems.  Her first book of poetry, In the Beginning: an Egg, a Mask, a Woman, explores Tara of Tibet and other Goddesses.
