Getting To Know The Goddess: Unlocking the Belly Dance Language of the Goddess

Utilizing archeologist Marija Gimbuta's groundbreaking research as a guide, we will explore ancient neolithic designs- many of them from Goddess figurines- and unlock and recover the origins of the ancient art of belly dance.

This class is part lecture and part dance. We will view designs on neolithic art, such as circles, spirals, figure eights, dots, straight lines, double axes, chevrons, triangles, and then apply them to basic belly dance vocabulary.

This will be fun and you need not be a dancer to come to this event! Wear comfortable clothing.

Z-Helene has been a Middle Eastern belly dance instructor at Austin Community College since 1988. She is also a Wiccan priestess and an active member of Tejas Web.
