International Women’s Day Poetry Reading 

International Women's Day is a time to celebrate women in our many identities and roles and recognize our strength as women continue to face oppression throughout the world. In the spirit of this day, six amazing poets will share their work and illuminate our unique voices for unity and celebration! There will be a brief open mic after the features; readers are encouraged to sign up to share their work. All are welcome to come celebrate women.

Faylita Hicks' work discovers the innate spirituality of the individual; a spirituality that is often translated into the embodiment of the metaphors dance and music. Her work aspires to encourage both self-awareness and self-actualization by addressing the topics of social awareness, religion, gender and sexuality
 
Dos Gatos Press editor Cindy Huyser was the featured poet for the 2012 Houston Poetry Fest. She co-edits the Texas Poetry Calendar and hosts the monthly 2nd Thursday poetry reading at BookWoman.

Jessica Ochoa Zamarripa’s work adds to San Anto Chicana voice. She writes as a celebration of Chicanisma, la femenina, her Tonantzin/mami role of three, a lost indigina & wifa deep in love. She’s been an Austin activist with Latina Mami and other organizations for 12 years.
 
Allyson Whipple's chapbook, We’re Smaller Than We Think We Are, will be published by Finishing Line Press in April. She gets her literary inspirations from landscape, science, math, religion, and driving long distances.
 
Liza Wolff-Francis’ most recently work has appeared in Border Senses, Di-verse-City anthology of the Texas International Poetry Festival, and unseenfiction.com <http://unseenfiction.com> . She was on the 2008 Albuquerque Poetry Slam Team and loves writing, travel, and being a momma.
