International Women's Day Poetry

Please join us for a poetry night to celebrate International Women's Day!

This event will be held on Wednesday, March 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at BookWoman on 5501 N Lamar Blvd A-105, 78751.

Renowned poet, author, and translator Liliana Valenzuela will read her poetry, and we will also include readings of poetry written by author, poet, and former board member, mónica teresa ortiz (program and biographies below).

Each year on International Women's Day, we remember one of our founders, Judith Rosenberg. This year we will read her poetry and share gratitude for her work with Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera over the years.

Audience members will be invited to share their poetry during an open mic session!

During the event, you'll learn more about ATCF, meet board members and staff, and hear about upcoming delegation plans.

Masks are required inside, but we will provide food and drinks outside.

¡Están invitad@s a una noche de poesía para celebrar el Día Internacional de la Mujer!

Este evento se llevará a cabo el miércoles 8 de marzo de 5:30 a 7:30 p. m. en BookWoman en 5501 N Lamar Blvd A-105, 78751.

La reconocida poeta, autora y traductora Liliana Valenzuela leerá su poesía, y también incluiremos lecturas de poesía escritas por la autora y poeta, mónica teresa ortiz.

Cada año, en el Día Internacional de la Mujer, recordamos a una de nuestras fundadoras, Judith Roseberg. Este año leeremos su poesía y compartiremos la gratitud por su trabajo con Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera a lo largo de los años.

¡Se invita a los miembros de la audiencia a compartir su poesía durante una sesión de micrófono abierto!

Durante el evento, aprenderá más sobre ATCF, conocerá a los miembros de la junta y al personal, y escuchará sobre los próximos planes de delegación.

Se requiere usar mascarilla adentro, pero proporcionaremos comida y bebidas afuera.

Liliana Valenzuela (she, her, ella) is the author of the poetry collection Codex of Love: Bendita Ternura (FlowerSong Press, 2020), which received an Honorable Mention in the Juan Felipe Herrera Best Poetry Book Award contest of the International Latino Book Awards 2022. She has also published the chapbook Codex of Journeys: Bendito Camino (Mouthfeel Press, 2013) and several artisan chapbooks. Liliana is also the Spanish language translator of works by Sandra Cisneros, Julia Alvarez, Denise Chávez, and many other writers. Her most recent translation is Mujer sin vergüenza (Vintage Español, 2022), by Sandra Cisneros.
