Poetry Reading and Signing: Smitten: This is What Love Looks Like
In 2018 Indie Blu(e) Publishing responded to the #metoo movement and the Judge Kavanaugh Supreme Court Hearings by putting a call out for women who felt moved to write poetry about their sexual violence/sexual assault experiences.
The culmination of this immediacy project was a huge collection of poetry from women across the world and all walks of life. Poems about childhood sexual abuse, poems about surviving rape, poems about the inequity of sexual assault and poems by men who had also experienced rape and abuse. We Will Not Be Silenced (WWNBS) went on to be the #1 best seller on Amazon in five separate categories. It received national and internal press attention and was featured throughout America. The outpouring of responses received led to a dedicated Facebook page, plans in the works for a WWNBS #2 and other similar, empowering collaborations. The Editors realized the power of the Anthology form and the importance of giving voices to subjects often drowned out by the majority.
SMITTEN was born, a project by women for women, featuring some of the best lesbian and bi poets in American and world-wide. The idea was to create a collection of voices of women loving women, in all forms, and to avoid the obvious temptation to make this erotica. There is far more to love between women than sex and it was the goal of this project to find those voices.
