Talk & Reading: Insufficient Evidence by Susan Kraus
When All The Evidence Is Insufficient… Then What?
In her third novel, Insufficient Evidence, author Susan Kraus tackles sexual assault in hookup culture. Her writing has been described as “genre-bending”: socially responsible fiction and psychological thriller layered with relationship/family dynamics. In an informal and interactive presentation, Kraus will share what she learned researching Insufficient Evidence, as she observed rape trials, interviewed law enforcement, rape crisis center volunteers, DA’s, IOA staff and university students. She’ll discuss the challenges of writing from multiple points of view with intersecting plot lines, and how her own long-held beliefs were upended when faced with the complexity of hookup culture and what she terms “the death of evidence.”
