Unsung: Book & CD Launch with Jan Seides
Jan Seides ("sigh-deez") has been a singer/songwriter as long as she can remember. She’s been playing piano since she was 3 years old, guitar since she was a teenager, and she can’t ever recall not singing.
UNSUNG, her sixth album, is the tales from the Bible that no one ever got to hear.
Bible stories are a part of our Western culture in a way that almost nothing else is. The stories and characters we have come to know began as oral tradition, and when written, the writers decided who was important and who was incidental. But the ones left out are very intriguing.
Jan’s somewhat inflated sense of responsibility kicked in. She decided to tell those stories in song, because, after all, each of us is important – at the least to ourselves. Some are about women, some about men, some Old Testament and some New, some angry, some sad, some sexy, some joyful, some even funny.
Jan got to play these songs in Israel in 2016, one of the highlights of her life.
Bradley Kopp also played, sang recorded and mixed, and Airshow mastered. Jan was about to make the CD when someone suggested turning it into a book. And thus, the book UNSUNG was born. The companion book is all the lyrics to the songs, a little backstory for each song, and beautiful illustrations. The drawings were created by Jan herself, each on a background watercolor by Vanessa Lively, who also created the cover art.
