Remembering and Reclaiming the Goddess: Poems by Susan J. Rogers
Susan J. Rogers combines the personal and mystical to reimagine history and ultimately transform it. Her retelling of the legends we thought we knew reveal that the Goddess of our ancestors is still with us, hiding in plain sight. She untangles the lies we were taught so we can stand proudly in reflection of the divine. Rogers takes us on a poetic journey from our troubled present all the way back to the prehistoric sacred grove of our ancestors. All over the world, when people honored the goddess in her original wholeness, disrespect toward women was unthinkable. Rogers unflinchingly examines how this changed by detailing the troubled history of what happened to the ancient Cailleach of Scotland. She uses the sacred grove as a metaphor for the Goddess as both nature’s regenerative presence and the wellspring of peaceful coexistence. The journey ends where it began, seeking the source of mystery, solace, and wisdom; knowing the way forward is also the way back home.
Susan J. Rogers has been interviewed about her poetry on the Texas Nafas program for Austin Public Access Station television. Her poetry has been published in The Ocotillo Review, Enchantment of the Ordinary by Mutabilis Press, di-vêrsé-city Anthology of the Austin International Poetry Festival, and Blue Hole, a magazine of the Georgetown Poetry Festival. Her books include In the Beginning: an Egg, a Mask, a Woman, Landscapes of the Mind, and her new book, Sacred Grove.
